About PowerCurve

Rethinking how resistance is applied.

From add-on bands to an integrated system, PowerCurve Strength Systems is building strength equipment around a simple idea: accommodating resistance should be measurable, repeatable, and controllable.

In the founder's words

The story behind PowerCurve.

My name is Jason Fersa, founder and creator of PowerCurve Strength Systems.

My strength-training journey started in the year 2000, when I was just 12 years old.

Fast-forward 20 years to 2020, and I had now spent two decades training and developed a deep understanding of strength training through years of experience.

Then COVID hit, gyms closed, and like many people, I scrambled to build a home gym.

There was one problem: weight plates were almost impossible to find.

I managed to get two 45-pound plates and a handful of smaller plates, but it wasn't nearly enough weight for the way I was accustomed to training. Resistance bands, however, were still readily available.

That led me to accommodating resistance training—combining traditional weight with resistance bands to change the resistance throughout the movement.

My plan was simple: use bands until I could buy enough weight, and hopefully maintain as much strength as possible in the meantime.

About six months later, weight plates became available again. I quickly ordered roughly 1,000 pounds of plates and expected to finally get back to normal training.

But when I did, I discovered something that surprised me.

I hadn't lost any strength.

In several lifts, I had actually gotten stronger.

That experience changed the way I looked at accommodating resistance. I wanted to continue using it.

But within a few weeks, I stopped.

The reason wasn't the training method. It was the setup.

Adding bands to a traditional rack was a hassle. Bands had to be looped around the bar and anchored to whatever suitable attachment point I could find. Different exercises required different setups. Squat, bench press, and deadlift all needed different band positions and tensioning.

And the biggest problem was that I never really knew how much resistance the bands were adding.

I could track the weight on the bar precisely, but the band resistance was largely an estimate. That made it difficult to reproduce a workout, measure progress, or progressively increase resistance with confidence.

Ironically, that was also why I hadn't realized how much progress I had made while training with bands in the first place.

Even though I believed in the training method, I eventually went back to traditional weights because they were simple, measurable, and easy to reproduce from workout to workout.

But the problem stayed with me.

Over the next several years, I kept coming back to the same question:

Why couldn't accommodating resistance be just as easy to set up, measure, and progress as traditional weight training?

As a mechanical design engineer, my instinct was to solve the problem.

I began developing a strength system that I would want to use myself—something that combined the simplicity of traditional weight training with the benefits of variable resistance.

The goal was straightforward:

Make accommodating resistance measurable, repeatable, adjustable, and easy to use.

Instead of improvised add-on band setups, resistance would be integrated directly into the equipment. Instead of guessing how much additional resistance was being applied, the equipment could measure it. And instead of rebuilding a band configuration every workout, resistance could be adjusted and reproduced systematically.

That idea eventually became the PowerCurve Strength System.

PowerCurve was created to solve the same problems that caused me to stop using accommodating resistance years earlier—and to make an effective training method easier to use, understand, measure, and progress.

That's how PowerCurve Strength Systems was born.

About the founder.

I grew up in North Jersey in a hardworking family where I learned early that opportunities often have to be created rather than waited for.

After high school, I joined the United States Navy. My military service taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of solving problems when the stakes are real.

After completing my service, I earned my engineering degree and began a career as a mechanical design engineer working for the U.S. Department of Defense.

For more than a decade, I designed machines, mechanical systems, and equipment that were fielded directly to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

PowerCurve brings together two major parts of my life: engineering and strength training.

After more than two decades under the bar and more than a decade designing real-world military grade equipment, I saw an opportunity to approach strength equipment differently—not simply as gym equipment, but as an engineered system.

PowerCurve Strength Systems was founded on that idea.

Strength equipment should be simple to use and sophisticated underneath.
