About PowerCurve

Rethinking how resistance is applied.

From add-on bands to an integrated system, PowerCurve Strength Systems is building strength equipment around a simple idea: accommodating resistance should be measurable, repeatable, and controllable.

In the founder's words

The story behind PowerCurve.

My name is Jason Fersa, founder and creator of PowerCurve Strength Systems.

I started strength training in the year 2000 at just 12 years old. By 2020, I had spent two decades under the bar. Then COVID hit, gyms closed, and I quickly built a home gym.

There was one problem: weight plates were nearly impossible to find.

I managed to get two 45-pound plates and a handful of smaller plates, but not enough weight for the way I was accustomed to training. Resistance bands, however, were readily available.

That led me to accommodating resistance—combining traditional weight with elastic resistance that increases as the bands stretch.

At first, bands were simply a temporary solution. My goal was to maintain as much strength as possible until I could get more weight.

About six months later, plates became available again. I ordered roughly 1,000 pounds and expected to return to normal training.

Instead, I discovered something that would eventually drive the creation of PowerCurve.

I hadn’t lost any strength. In several lifts, I had actually gotten stronger.

I wanted to keep using accommodating resistance, but within a few weeks I stopped.

The problem wasn’t the training method. It was the setup.

Bands had to be attached to the bar and anchored to the rack. Different lifts required different configurations.

And the biggest issue was that I never really knew how much resistance the bands were adding.

I could track the weight on the bar, but the elastic resistance was an estimate. That made it difficult to reproduce a workout, measure progress, or progressively adjust the total load with confidence.

Ironically, that was also why I hadn't realized how much progress I had made while training with bands in the first place.

Eventually, I went back to traditional weights because they were simple, measurable, and easy to reproduce.

But the problem stayed with me.

Why couldn’t accommodating resistance be just as easy to set up, measure, and progress as traditional weight training?

As a mechanical design engineer, my instinct was to solve it.

I began developing a strength system that combined the familiarity of traditional plate-loaded training with the advantages of variable resistance.

The goal was straightforward:

Make accommodating resistance measurable, repeatable, controllable, and easy to use.

Instead of add-on band setups, the resistance path would be integrated into the equipment. Instead of estimating the added band load, the system would measure it. And instead of rebuilding a setup from workout to workout, the resistance could be adjusted and reproduced systematically.

That idea became the PowerCurve Strength System.

PowerCurve was created to solve the same problems that caused me to stop using accommodating resistance years earlier—and to make an established training method easier to use, understand, measure, and progress.

That’s how PowerCurve Strength Systems was born.

About the founder.

I grew up in North Jersey in a hardworking family where I learned early that opportunities have to be created rather than waited for.

After high school, I joined the U.S. Navy. Military service taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of solving real-world problems.

After completing my service, I earned my engineering degree and began a career as a mechanical design engineer supporting the U.S. Department of Defense.

For more than a decade, I designed machines, mechanical systems, and equipment fielded directly to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

PowerCurve brings together two major parts of my life: engineering and strength training.

After decades of strength training and designing real-world equipment, I saw an opportunity to approach strength equipment differently—not simply as gym equipment, but as an engineered system.

Strength equipment should be simple to use and sophisticated underneath.
